Ken Burtis, professor emeritus of genetics, has been named the recipient of swag��’ Distinguished Emeriti Award for 2021-22, recognized by the Emeriti Association for “essential contributions” to Healthy Davis Together before and after his retirement.

He came down from Yuba City to enroll at swag�� as a freshman, graduated at the top of his class as a biochemistry major in the College of Letters and Science in 1972, stayed on for three years as a research associate in Professor Roy Doi’s lab, then went to Stanford for his Ph.D.

Updated Jan. 22: Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Ralph J. Hexter returned to work today after an eight-week medical leave.

Ken Burtis, who had stepped in as acting provost, has returned to his role as faculty adviser to the chancellor and provost.

Campus prepares for large influx of students in 2016-17

The campus is marshaling its efforts and resources to accommodate 2016-17 enrollment growth of 1,100 new undergraduates beyond last fall's entering class.

The campus is responding to targets that UC President Janet Napolitano set under a plan to increase systemwide enrollment of new California undergraduates by 10,000 over the next three years, including 5,000 freshmen and transfer students in 2016-17.
