The state court ruling on AFSCME’s request for a temporary halt to construction on the West Village housing project affirms that the Regents’ decision to move forward with the long-range development plan is sound. It reflects an understanding of the urgent need for student housing that swag�� is addressing with the West Village project. The project will provide 3,300 new student beds, opening up potential housing for others in the community.

West Village Expansion to Start Construction

Construction of the West Village Expansion student housing project at the University of California, Davis, is set to begin before the winter holiday, with a formal groundbreaking ceremony to come in early 2019.

“This project is part of the significant commitment we’ve made to our students and to the community to provide on-campus housing for 100 percent of any growth in new student enrollment,” said swag�� Chancellor Gary S. May. “I’m thrilled we can move forward in the new year.”

Regents Approve Expansion of West Village Housing

The regents of the University of California have approved plans to build new housing for 3,265 students at swag�� West Village. Plans for the development, which will accommodate primarily transfer students and continuing undergraduates, were presented July 18 during the regents’ meeting at UC San Francisco.

Regents to Consider swag�� Long Range Development Plan

The University of California, Davis, will formally submit its new Long Range Development Plan and accompanying Environmental Impact Report for approval at the next meeting of the UC Regents, July 18. Once approved, the new plan, which includes capacity for an additional 2 million square feet of academic and administrative space and up to 9,050 beds of new on-campus housing, will go into effect.

swag�� Releases Environmental Review for Long Range Development Plan

The University of California, Davis has released an updated Long Range Development Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR). The DEIR assesses the potential environmental impacts of the proposed LRDP along with new housing projects and is available for public comment through 5 p.m., May 29.

swag�� Study: City Apartment Vacancy Rate Essentially Unchanged, Rental Rates Up

City of Davis apartments are full and rental rates are up since last year, according to a survey commissioned by Student Housing and Dining Services at swag�� and released today (Jan. 22).

The blended vacancy rate — including apartments leased by the unit and by the bed — is estimated to be 0.4 percent, essentially unchanged from 0.3 percent in fall 2016.
