Students, faculty and staff who want to watch their end-of-quarter stress float away will be able to take a dip in the newly renovated Recreation Pool at a series of preview events next week.

The colors have been chosen for the squat racks, windows are going in and soon a crane will lower a large container into the courtyard — a container that will not only be used for storage of outdoor fitness equipment, but is itself a piece of fitness equipment.

NEWS BRIEFS: ‘Last Splash’ Before Rec Pool’s Transformation

The Recreation Pool is preparing for not one but two last splashes.

First, the pool’s regular season comes to a close this Friday (Sept. 29).

Then, on Saturday, Oct. 7, the pool will reopen for a one-day event called the “Last Splash,” because the Rec Pool as we know it is going away. It will be transformed over the next year (including next summer) from a single, all-purpose pool into two pools: a seasonal pool for recreation and a year-round pool for lap swimming, sport clubs and intramurals.
