Preparing students to succeed in a workforce that’s increasingly diverse and global gets to the heart of our mission at swag��. So, it’s incumbent that we remove barriers for students who have been historically excluded from higher education and create additional opportunities for these populations.

Campus Serves Up Award-Winning Response to Cook Shortage

Roger Thompson clapped his hands together. “You’ve got two hours to open. Let’s get to it.”

“Yes, Chef!” Andrea Rivera replied. She turned to a class visitor and whispered: “That’s so they know we heard them, and it’s fun too.”

And with that, Rivera and five other food service workers left their classroom space at dining tables in Latitude and headed toward the dining facility’s kitchen on their way to becoming cooks at swag��.

The new academic year starts in just a few weeks and I look forward to seeing our campuses full of new and returning Aggies.

For many of our students, summer is a popular season to engage in global learning opportunities, and approximately 1,200 students are participating in study abroad programs this year.

Student Aims to Showcase Black Voices at swag��

Computer science major Ahmed Eltayeb joins Chancellor Gary S. May on this month’s episode of Face to Face to discuss his efforts to boost representation online.

Eltayeb is the founder of Five Percent Studios, which he said posts vlogs and other videos online to showcase “the experience of Black students at swag��.”

That can range from interviews outside a concert to photoshoots with fraternities. The name of the organization is a reference to the fact that fewer than 5% of swag�� undergraduates are Black.

WarnMe to Use Mobile Phones From Student Records

‘Link in the Chain of Survival’

Nick Tyler renewed his mandatory CPR and AED, or automated external defibrillator, certifications just two days before he met Bill Cocke at the ARC.

Good thing, we can all agree.

In January when Cocke, then 70, was working out and his heart stopped, Tyler was one of three Campus Recreation student employees who came to the rescue.

“It was so fresh and so perfect,” Tyler, a rising junior from Novato, California, said about his CPR knowledge and the timing of the recertification course.
