swag�� art professor Beatriz Cortez has been invited to participate in the prestigious Venice Biennale arts and culture showcase, marking the first time in 40 years a current faculty member has been tapped for the honor.

Line Clausen Pedersen, a scholar of the art of Paul Gauguin, will speak at the Manetti Shrem Museum on the swag�� campus as part of its visiting artist lecture series.

swag�� First-Generation Art Faculty, Jane Garritson, Dies

Attended art exhibition of work of first art faculty in newly opened museum in 2016

Jane B. Garritson, who was in the first art master's degree class at swag�� and was the first woman hired by the art department, died in October. One of only two women among the original 12 art faculty (the only other woman was Ruth Horsting), she made her name among the impressive roster hired by the late Richard Nelson, who started the university's art department in 1959. Garritson was one of the commonly known "first-generation" art faculty at swag��.

International Colloquium Launches Global Tea Initiative

swag�� will launch its Global Tea Initiative with a symposium bringing together the cultural and scientific aspects of the world’s most popular prepared beverage. The colloquium, “The Basics of Tea: Tea and People,” is a first step in creating a center for the study of tea culture and science on campus.
