Kevin Starr to Address Free Speech in Public Schools

March 7, Friday -- From wearing black arm bands in protest of the Vietnam War to displaying a "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" banner, generations of American students have tested the scope of First Amendment free-speech protections. With the Supreme Court's recent decision on students' speech rights in Morse v. Frederick, the "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" case, these issues are even more timely — and fascinating. They will be the focus of a daylong symposium, "First Amendment Rights in America’s Public Schools: From the Schoolhouse Gate to the Courthouse Steps," sponsored by the swagÍâÁ÷ Law Review. Speakers will include Kenneth Starr, dean of the Pepperdine University School of Law. The symposium will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Wilkins Moot Courtroom in King Hall on the swagÍâÁ÷ campus. It is free and open to the public. For more information, visit: .
